A time to make friends

"I hope that this spirit will be with us during the next days," says Jörg Förster, Chairman of the Board of the German University Sports Federation (adh) on Monday evening in Munich City Hall.

At the invitation of the City of Munich, the heads of delegation met there for an official reception in the "Ratstrinkstube". City Councillor Kathrin Abele, representing the city of Munich, welcomed the representatives of the 29 nations: "This year's World Beach Volleyball Championships is a highlight in the city's sports calendar. We people in Munich not only enjoy sports, we also enjoy watching."

"With more than 16,000 active participants in more than 600 different events per semester in around 100 sports, the Central University Sports Munich is the largest university sports facility in Germany," says Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. mult Wolfgang A. Herrmann, President of the Technical University Munich (TUM). Luciano Cabral, Vice-President of the World Federation of University Sports (FISU), was delighted with the living legacy of the 1972 Games in the Olympic Park. "We are very pleased to be able to contribute to this, which is very important to us," says Cabral.

As a cultural highlight, the Moriscan group of the TUM performed a traditional Moriscan dance and inspired the audience with their acrobatic figures.
